— A note

We are not the largest renovation studio in the city, and we have no intention of becoming so. We take on three houses a year, finish what we begin, and leave behind work that will outlive us all.

— Capabilities

Four disciplines. One standard.

01

Heritage Restoration

Craftsman, Edwardian and Tudor-revival homes returned to their original character — without the draft, the failing plaster, or the wiring that worries your insurer.

From $480/sqft

02

Kitchen & Bath

Considered millwork, honest materials, and the kind of layout that adds forty thousand to a home's valuation and makes you want to cook every night of the week.

From $95,000

03

Quiet Extensions

Open-plan additions engineered with flush steel and bifold doors to a millimetre. Permits, structural drawings, and the City negotiation all included.

From $220,000

04

Whole-Home Renewal

A complete reconsideration of a house — envelope, services, finishes — done in a single contiguous build, by a single crew, with a single point of contact for the entire programme.

From $1.4M

— Selected work, 2022–2025

Six houses. Each one different.

We won't show you a hundred kitchens that look the same. These are the houses that taught us something — the ones we'd ask permission to photograph again.

— How we work

01 · Site visit We come to the house. We listen for ninety minutes. Then we leave and think about it for two weeks.

02 · Schematic A drawing set, a fixed-fee proposal, and a project programme — delivered to your kitchen table, not your inbox.

03 · Build One crew on your house from groundbreak to handover. Daily updates. Site cleaner than we found it.

04 · Handover A finished house, a binder of warranties, and a number you can call for the next ten years. We answer.

— Studio

A studio of eleven.

Rowan House began in 2004 in a basement in Mount Pleasant. We were two carpenters with a clipboard and a strong opinion about how houses on the West Coast should age. Twenty years later we are still on the same coast, in the same trade, with the same opinion — and a crew of eleven who feel the same way.

We do not subcontract our framing, our finish carpentry, or our project management. We do not run more than three houses concurrently. We do not chase the busiest year of our lives — we chase the best year of yours.

Licensed in BC. Insured to $5M. Member of the Homebuilders Association of Vancouver since 2007.

— Voices, in their own words

"They turned our 1924 Craftsman into a house our daughter will eventually raise her own family in. Came in on budget, came in three weeks ahead of schedule, and the site was cleaner the day they left than the day they arrived."

Eleanor & James Tate

— Point Grey, 2024

"We interviewed four contractors. Rowan was the only one who told us where the budget was tight and why. We knew within twenty minutes they were the firm we'd hire."

Sarah Voss

— Kerrisdale, 2023

"We had structural problems no one else wanted to touch. They engineered a steel solution, got it through the City, and the finished room looks like it was always there."

Marc & Lena Beaumont

— West Vancouver, 2023

"Eighteen months, no surprises. That's the line I use when friends ask me to recommend a builder. Eighteen months. No surprises."

David Choi

— Shaughnessy, 2022
